7' 2" Mini Mal Surfboard Plans
A downsized take on the classic Malibu longboard, reworked with modern rails and a bottom profile built for medium-size swells. Agile like a shortboard, but still easy to walk to the nose.
A Longboard That Wants to Be a Shortboard
The 7'2" Mini Mal shrinks the big Malibu-style boards that shaped early surfing down to a quicker, more maneuverable size. Modern rails and a flat bottom profile give it a livelier feel than a traditional longboard, while it still holds enough length for easy nose access. It's happiest in nice medium-size swell.
Construction follows the fishbone frame method used across the plans lineup, glassed with 4 oz. E glass and a suggested epoxy resin, using two layers on the deck and one on the bottom. A brass or plastic vent plug rounds out the build.
